25th June

Its a gorgeous sunny day. Bright hard sunligh - the sunglasses come out! I'm cing up to the end of my book. Headhunters by Jo Nesbo. Not bad. Some good interviewing techniques and a vaguely interesting story. Its well written and quite gripping but I find it hard to sympathise/empathise with the main character. I didn't find that with the other book of his that I read.

I notice that some of the carpentry work has been done. I do an inventory and am quite pleased to see how much has been done. There are still some pieces of work still to be done and I'm considering writing to them about that work when I get an email telling me what they know they still have to do. Luckily, it tallies with my list.

I get the figures for the work to be done to acoustically insulate the Essex CC rooms: £13k! I suggest to my colleagues that we should make them share the costs. Send out the details of the work to their technical consultants to assess and agree what we're doing.

Go along to my 121 with Cheri. Her idea of a 1 to 1 is not the same as mine. In my world it means its about my development. In hers it mans that i tell her stuff about my work so that she's up to date with what I'm doing. Oh well....when in Rome......

I discuss where we are in the refurb my concerns about getting John to take up the project management role of the remaining works even though it was my suggestion that he does it for his development. I just hope that he picks it up and deals with it properly otherwise we're in trouble.

I spend the afternoon going through some of the IT issues facing us and some of the legal stuff to do with the agreement we're putting in place to allow other Essex councils to use our contract to provide their ICT services.
