More rain! Oh well!
I walk into the building and am pleasantly surprised! The entrance lobby has been decorated. I knew that the walls were going to be done but they have done the panels as well as finishing off all trimmings, etc. All that's left is cleaning of the quarry tiles and a new mat throughout the entrance lobby. It looks really good and its a surprise to see it done early.
I meet with Steve and go through the work still to be done and the potential problem areas. I should say that John and Wendy are also there with me. The main problems are the main staircase, the doors, carpets, fire detectors and door security system. The window suppiers are in a category all of their own. They distort, appear to be stupid.- although they may be hiding behind that facade (lol) - cannot be relied upon to meet deadlines and will almost certainly miss the dates they have agreed to meet.
My personal view is that we are not going to make this date and that elements of this project will be late. I can't say that publicly but I have privately given Steve his priority deadlines that I want him to meet and that does not include all the above elements.
I spent some time in the afternoon going through appraisals, discussing development and writing them up. Essential stuff for people.
There are also a series of ICT issues:
We have to shut down some servers for the weekend to do some work on them. It looks fairly routine but we find out that its more complex as there are more people working over the weekend than we realise. I spend some time negotiating deals with people as we must do the work on the weekend.
We upgraded a link to a satellite building on the weekend, there were initial issues until the update had been recognised by the server. I get an update from the telco and from our ICT company on progress - all seems well now.
The telephones are still giving us problems with the VoIP system putting calls into a loop and not connecting. We're putting pressure on the suppliers but not having much luck.
