31st March

Blake and I set off for our Saturday walk. Its miserable, grey and cold. I misread the weather and only have a fleece. It affects my cough and laves m with a problem for the weekend just when I thought I was getting better.

After breakfast I spend some time in the garden putting in some new bulbs in a couple of beds we set up a couple of years ago, clear out the pond and then do some general tidying up. Marian and I spend some time in the afternoon putting up seeds. She does a load of vegetables, flowers and bulbs whilst I tackle some fruit, flowers and bedding plants.

Marian has spoken to our neighbours about looking after Blake for us during the week - more on that later - and fixed up with them to come over for an impromptu dinner tonight. I was going to do some burgers on the BBQ and Warren and Mirabel agree to join us with their own burgers. Marian throws a salad together, does some potato and sweet potato wedgies, salad, ciabatta loaf and fried onions. The Smiths bring burgers, beers, olives, wine and company.

We chat, eat, catch up with each other - haven't seen each other much recently - and each other's families, drink, swap complaints, complain about the government, taxes, etc. Lovely evening. All the more pleasant for being so totally unexpected to paraphrase my old boss.
