Joe was my best man at our wedding. We don't celebrate his birthday but its one of those dates which has stuck in my head. I have a love of numbers and they tend to stick in my head for no rhyme or reason. Some resonate and his is one. I'll drink a quiet toast to him later with a beer or two.
Blake and I walk over the fields as usual. Its a lovely sunny day but a bit cold. Just right for walking. I take a couple of pics from the same spot as a month ago - part of my plan to capture the changing scene as the year progresses. You'll have to look at March 17th to make the comparison. Actually, I see if I can find it and post them next to each other on this page.
I spend some time after breakfast in the garden. The lawn needs mowing, there's weeding to be done and some of the seeds have started coming up. The melon is sprouting, the sunflowers have strengthened - i transplant them into bigger pots to give their roots a chance to develop and put them in a cold frame to start hardening them off. I've got about 20 or so and plan to give some to Warren and Mirabel and to Pascale and Alex. I had done that last year and they really took off in both of those gardens so I'm hoping for a repeat success. These are grown from plants I grew some three or four years ago when for some reason Kew Gardens sent us a free packet of sunflower seeds. I grew them then and saved the seeds and have been doing that ever since. I've got about three or four watertight containers full of sunflower seeds I've collected over the years from the original and subsequent plants.
Marian gets a text from Keith and Yvonne suggesting that we meet for a drink. We think about it and the things we'd planned to do today in preparation for next week. We suggest that we might delay it to the next week but they come up with an idea to meet at a pub over our way so we decide that we should go. We haven't seen them for a while and are really good company.
We meet up with them and have a few drinks. Marian is the star and drives as does Yvonne. So Keith and I are left free to indulge. We spend a couple of hours with them and have a great time catching up. Yvonne has booked a hut on the beach at Frinton for the summer. She used to do that every year when the girls were young and now does the same for er grand neices. She suggests a date in August for us to come down and meet up with them for the d6. Its a date! Its in the diary! Should be fun - not the same as Half Moon bay or Red Water creek but bound to be enjoyable.
Head back home and I stagger outside to do the barbecue! Its goes down well after the beers! I drink a small toast to Joe.

Cool photo comparisons. Looks like the weather and light quality is the biggest difference so far. So do good sunflower plants beget good sunflower plants? And bad beget bad? And LOL your beach trip will be different. Can you go in the water?
