Not many people know this, but my first name is David so this is a special day for me. It's doubly so cos the first friend I made over here is a Welsh guy. I learnt more about Wales when I first came here than I learnt about the rest of Britain even though I was living in London. I then discovered that St David is the patron saint for Wales. Hence the doubly special bit. He taught me the tradition of chewing on daffodils on the first of March. lol.
I'm running out of wine - my drink of choice nowadays with and after dinner. Pop into Tescos for my usual sandwich and drink for lunch and also browse their wines. Great deals and some great choices.
In the office I stroll round the building with Steve and Dave from the Joinery firm to have a look at the doors. Our Fire Officer has apparently condemned all the doors - the shithead has waited until we are nearly finished the project to bring this up. I can argue about it but I think that we need to do something about them - this should have been addressed before the project even started but a lot of this was done with a view to do it as cheaply as possible as this is tax-payers money. I want to do the upgrades to stay within the spirit of the project: fit for purpose for the next 25 to 30 years - I just realised: this could be my monument as I'm unlikely to be around the next time they refurbish the building!
I figure out that we've got about 30 pairs of doors to sort out. Its going to cost something phenomenal to sort them out.
Do some work on the ICT project review - this is a background job I set myself to look back at how we handled the procurement of the ICT contract. I do a bit at a time on a regular basis and am now about halfway through.
Get an e-mail from a councillor who really likes what we have done inside the building but has a concern about the grounds. Unfortunately for her, I only have a remit to look after the building refurbishment and my budget doesn't stretch to the grounds. I speak to Wendy who looks after the overall building and she promises to sort it out.
Discuss the PV panels with the climate change officer. They still haven't been switched on and I'm concerned that he might miss the deadline. He's a bit laid back and doesn't seem to be aware of what's being done with the. Oh well, at least I've warned him and got him to do some chasing.
