We're going over to Pascale and Alex today for a mother's day meal. Alex's parents and brother will also be there so that they can celebrate two mums for the price of seven people!
I take Blake out first thing. A much nicer day. Cooler but sunnier and more pleasant for walking.
John (our local handyman) turns up early -whilst we're still having breakfast. We had told him to come over at about 11.30 but he had spare time so came earlier! We ask him to look at re-hanging our patio gate (it gets banged around in the wind and the stop is coming away from the house. Kick around some ideas with him and he comes up with a proposal which sounds good. We also ask him to look at the join between the patio and the house as we are getting a leak into the basement which is damaging the wall downstairs. Again he comes up with an idea of what we could do. We ask him to give us a quote and an idea of when he would be able to do the work.
We leave Blake with a chew - we can't take him as Colin has recently had 'the snip' and we're worried that his stitches will be damaged as the dogs are quite boisterous when they play with each other. We've made alternative arrangements and Warren has promised to come over and take him for a walk when he takes their dog out. He also promises to feed him if we're not back by 6.30. As an aside, he does as he promised and Blake is well looked after.
Head over to Pascale. Alex has cooked a chili con carne which they serve with all the trimmings including tortilla breads and chips. Pascale has made a marshmallow pie on a chocolate biscuit base. They do us proud with wine and beer to wash it down. Ian is already there when we arrive and Kevin and Sheryl turn up shortly after. We sit around the dining table chatiing and eating and drinking till early evening. Its a great way to spend a Sunday afternoon. As a special treat to Marian I drive - we had originally planned to get the train but they have shut the network to do railway works in preparation for the Olympics and replaced it with a bus service. It takes forever to use that mode of transport so I decide to drive.
Pascale and Alex are talking about doing a round the world trip and we spend a bit of time chatting about that. Sheryl is feeling chatty today and we also hear lots of stories from her about the family and some of the politics going on in it. We think she should write a bookabout her and Kevin's families given all the stuff that has happened over the years!
Back home I watch the grand prix highlights. The BBC have lost the rights to show all the races as this is now covered by Sky. The greed of Formula One organisers is beyond belief. I avoided the new all day so settle down to watch it without knowing the result. Good win for Mclaren and its good to see the Red Bull stranglehold broken. It would be good to see a few more fast cars from the other manufacturers. Still, its early days yet so Mercedes, Renault and Williams as well as Ferrari may well pick up as the season progresses.
