14th March - scaffolding going......

As I walk up to the office I notice that the scaffolding has been taken down from the front of the building. They went in early this morning and removed it. Nice to have the building back and some light inside. Its not all gone but at least the front is clear.

I chat to the IT guys about the work they did the previous night restoring power to the server room and bringing the systems back up again. They did a bloody good job and I express my thanks personally and in an official email to their manager. There was some good work done by them.

I get an email telling me about the nesting bird and its egg in the courtyard scaffolding and get a call from the Landscapes officer telling me what I need to do and be aware of with the bird. I tell her that I'll discuss with the site manager. Phone Steve and warn him about this and forward him the email. He responds by saying that the egg isn't his and that he has an alibi! Idiot!

I go and have a look at the councillors offices where they say that they don't like the old furniture and where they want new lighter modern stuff. I measure up with John and figure out what we should get and discuss with the guy who looks after the councillors. He agrees with the proposals. I then check out what we need to get for the Chairman's office and agree that with the secretary who looks after the chairman.

Over to Chelmsford for a meeting which goes well. Have a quick beer and sandwich with my friend Paul and whilst I'm with him, Chris who I worked with in Chelmsford pops in. We chat about this and that and they tell me that Chelmsford now has City status as part of the Queen's jubilee declaration.

Steve calls me to say that he spoke to the RSPB and has been given advice on what to do about the dove. The bloody thing is a pest and we're molly-coddling it!

Back home early as Richard (Pete Pooran's dad-in-law) is bringing over a car for us to test drive. Its OK but neither of us are convinced by it. We tell him we'll sleep on it and get back to him tomorrow.

  2. The car was a bit cold! Won't try that again.
The building is mid 80s. Quite a few probs that we've discovered but it has its charm (for an office block).
The weather was misty and cool in the morning but the sun blew the clouds off and the afternoon wasn't too bad.
The next day was even better and almost summery.
