The night was a restless one. The infection seems to have got a foothold and my nose is streaming. I'm not feeling my greatest but I notice from my checks of emails sent whilst I was off yesterday that there have been a few problems in the office. I decide to go in and have a look at them and see what can be sorted out.
Its still cold but the journey in is good. I'm feeling quite miserable with a constant streaming nose. In this cold its bloody awful. I lose myself in my book for a while (in between nose-blowings!).
In the office I get stuck into the problems:
- lighting over a group of desks in the first floor
- meeting room which had a leak has not been cleaned
- the members want more modern furniture in their meeting room
- the architect is coming over to comments on the firewalls
- the Fire Officer has decided he is going to condemn all the refurbished doors (even though we had agreed they were OK after their refurbishment)
- the Fire Officer now wants a new set of inspection hatches in the second floor with periscopes for the inspection
- the climate change officer is organising for photo voltaic cells to be installed on the roof and it could interfere with our programme.
As the morning goes past I'm coughing more, my throat feels raw, my chest is rasping and nose streaming. I decide that enough is enough and head for home.
Marian says that Alex has had a couple of bites for the bus and that he and Pascale are coming over later to install the battery, show a person around it, stay for dinner and probably stay overnight.
I crash out on the sofa and doze for a while. Blake comes in to see me and leaves a couple of toys next to me - I like to think that they're presents to cheer me up but suspect that he wants to play! Colin wakes me up when he comes romping in (he doesn't run he romps) and jumps up to say hello.
Chat with Pascale and Alex for a while and then help Alex to put the battery back in the bus. It doesn't work. He tries jump leads and that doesn't work. In the meantime, the punter shows up. They are shown round the bus as it can still be connected to mains power its just that the engine can't be started.
The buyer is very interested and puts down a deposit. Deep joy all round.
We have dinner and chat. I'm not very good company at the moment and really do more listening than talking - it hurts to talk. Marian has also cooked dessert so we have a real feast with a couple bottles of wine.
Afterwards we watch Black Swan. Good movie, well acted, interesting story which twists and turns and keeps us guessing. Very enjoyable - even Alex who is a reluctant viewer is gripped and enjoys it.
Marian And I are both awake until late at night/early morning. The house is very hot and its too uncomfortable to sleep like that. I check the boiler - its been on full-time since the cold weather set in - and find that its going full blast. I turn down the thermostat but that has no affect so I try the setting on the boiler but that has no affect either. I reset it to timer mode to switch off now and come on two hours later (its now 4 in the morning). Get back into bed and Marian asks if I'd seen Colin. I hadn't, so we hunt the house and can't find him anywhere until I check Pascale & Alex to find that he sick into their bedroom. Finally fall back into bed and get some sleep for a while.
