Another very cold day. The forecast is that it will be like this for the rest of the month. Oh well. We'll just have to bear with it.
Luckily, the trains are running well so I'm into the office in good time.
Steve calls me up to say that he's meeting with the Fire Officer to discuss the requirements they have for the second floor. They want all the firewalls repaired which we expected. However, they also want us to put fireproof covers over the corridor and they want detectors put into The ceiling void.
I discuss with Steve after we meet with the FO. My assessment is an extra 5 weeks on our schedule and an extra £50k. Steve thinks we might be able to save some time by working weekends. I hope so as we can't rent the floor until its ready and that's money not coming in!
I then get complaints from the people under the area where the wall on the floor above is being demolished over their heads. I reassure them that it won't come down on them but I don't think they believe me!
I bring my director up to speed on what's happening - he's quite laid back. I suspect that its because he knows that I'll deal with it and he doesn't want to worry about it. I don't mind, once he leaves me alone to get on with it.
I then start looking at re-positioning the televisions. I've got three of them. One for the councillors room, one for the Chief Exec room and one for his meeting room. I discuss their positioning with him and agree where they'll go. He wants it on the opposite wall in the meeting room to where I had the TV aerial point placed, so I leave instructions for a new point to be put in.
I do some more work on my post mortem of the ICT Service procurement project. A little exercise I thought would be interesting : to look back at what we did, comment on how it went, what worked, what didn't and why. Its quite interesting to do and I feel that I'm the right person to do it as I was involved all the way through and I can be more objective about it than my colleagues who were stuck in it from day 1.
As the day goes past my chest feels sore (I've had a minor infection giving me a chest cough) and my head feels more like its full of cotton wool than anything else. Head home and really notice the cold tonight whilst I'm sitting on the platform reading my book. After 15 minutes I have to give up and walk around as I can feel the cold starting to seep into me. Its quite uncomfortable and I'm please to eventually get home.
Marian cooks a special treat: spag bol! Haven't had that for a long time now. Its delicious.
