Trains still not at their best but they get me to work.
As usual, the first thing that hits me is the problem with the lights. John and I decide that we'll leave the control with the team as we seem to have a faulty unit which I'll chase up with the supplier. I discuss with Steve and Fred but Fred thinks that it might just be a loose connection. I also ask him about re-aligning some of the lights whilst he's there - i should say that they aren't actually called lights by these guys but they are luminaires!
I then look at the cupboards which are in the way of where I need to have new data sockets and power points put in. Some of the people have been relocated to a new area and are complaining of the noise from the printer near to them. I need to move the printer. The cupboard is full and must be emptied before it can be moved.
I discuss the fire compartmentalisation with the Building Control team. They just won't make a decision. I take one of them upstairs to show him the problem and the proposed solution but he still won't take a decision and sign it off.
Go off to our meeting with Essex County Council. They're renting the top floor from us when the refurbishment is complete. There are supposed to be 8 of us there but it's just me and Chris, my director, there. There's eight of the Ecc people. I give them the bad news of ourslippage. We're going to be very late in delivering the floor to them. Luckily, they are having their own problems so are quite relieved as it means that they can blame us for any delays.
I visit Building Control again but no sign off. Get in touch with our architect and get him to send me some more details on the proposal. Read through and make sure its what I want before forwarding to the BC team. Hopefully, it'll get them moving.

Cor! if my projects ran like this....I'd be looking for work. Oh the joys of civil service? but isn't project management FUN! i absolutely love it. Gotta get me another good big project in which to sink my teeth. (btw, note I do not end my sentences in preps.) LOL.
ReplyDeletei hear health and safety in the UK is a bloody nightmare to get anything passed. please post pix of the luminaires! Thanks.
The project is fine. It's the bloody people who're the problem· as British Rail said: if it weren`t for passengers we`d run a perfect rail service· I have 320 people in the building with 330 different opinions·
