Hectic day

Into the office - glorious, cold morning, smooth train journey and good book - for the managers briefing from our Chief Exec and his team. We might get a 1% pay increase this year Whoo-hoo!

Then into a meeting with Cherie and her management team to look at customers our relationship with them and how we're managing them! Deep Joy! I get a cup of coffee just before the meeting and am immediately nabbednby one of the managersncomplaining about drafts on the ground floor. I manage to get away and then spend some time with Cherie and the rest of the team but then had to drop out for a half hour to talk about the server room and the power requirements. I don the hard hat and high visibility jacket and go to check out the room. We manage to sort it out and I head back to Cherie's meeting. However, Steve thensitenmanager asks me to meet with him later to discuss some issues in the 2nd floor.

Finish off the meeting with Cherie and join a teleconference to discuss an agreement we're trying to set up between the 4 councils involved in the new IT contract.

I grab a bite at my desk before going off to meet Steve. They've found more asbestos on the floor and need to discuss how to handle it. Back on with the hard had and high vis jacket. We check the floor and agree how we'll manage the tiles. We also look at the walls in the kitchen and the tiled floor - again, I agree the way for us to handle it in a way which will be cheaper and actually save us time.

I meet with the team that has been complaining about the drafts on the ground floor and about the lighting. I work out a way forward for them and promise to look into a couple of areas.

Back at my desk I'm told that the main phone line into the building has been cut and we've lost comms in and out of the building. Meet with our IT support team and they come up with a way to restore a partial service. I ask Steve to look into the problem and ask him to put measures in place to stop this from recurring. Cherie is actually driving this one and loving every minute of it. She relishes this kinda stuff.

Steve gets back to me and it sounds like everyone is owning up to causing the problem. Jay who runs the demolition team - great man, hard worker - says its his fault. Fred who runs the electricians team - another bloody hard worker, willing to help us out always - says its his fault cos' he told them to cut it. I tell Steve that I'm not interested in pointing fingers and just want to make sure it doesn't happen again. I'll sleep on it and figure out a process - its just plain impossible to label a whole cable but we should be able to get an electrician to sign off any cuts or disconnections.
