29th Feb - 4 years since the last one!

For those of you who haven't noticed: this year is a leap one. It means that next year I'll be cheated and my birthday will be on a Saturday instead of Friday - I'll lose a day of celebrations!

Today I'm on a seminar. For some reason I'm seen as a shaper and influencer in the organisation. Someone with ideas and with leadership qualities. Well, I have loads of experience, enthusiasm and ideas I suppose. Anyway, I've been part of a group of 18 people put through a programme with a view to us taking the organisation through to its next stages. Very flattering. We have been through a series of seminars to develop us and to come up with ideas. This seminar is being run so that we can start looking at how to roll out the ideas to the organisation with the starting point being the managers conference next month. Its good fun and quite interesting. The management speak and local government jargon leaves me cold. Value for money, outcomes, customer needs, strategic planning, corporate policy. Boring. Boring. Boring.

I have lunch at my desk and then get a call to do with the lights on the ground floor. I tell them to start moving people now as we have already tried the lights and it has to be easier to move the people. That's agreed until two minutes later when I get a call from the same manager saying that we need to do something about the lights. I can't believe the incompetence, the indecision and the inability to act! I go downstairs and waste half an hour listening to their debate. Instead of discussin it and figuring out what they want they insist that I'm involved in their decision making. I sidestep it and tell them that I'll organise what they want if they can figure that out. They are now forced to decide and eventually come up with an idea.

I get Steve and Fred and ask them to join me in the area so that we can organise the lights. Bugger me! The team has changed its mind by the time I get back and they start looking at other non-workable stuff. They are unbelieveable! Half hour later we have a proposal for Fred to work on tonight.

Back home, Viv is still with Marian. I haven't seen her for a while so sit and chat for a bit. Good to see her.

    1. Nope! She's staying in her seat by the bloody window - the brightest seat in the block. Amazing!
