19th Feb - flylands park

I get a call from the office after I've fed Blake and whilst I'm having a shower! I check my watch to make sure its a Sunday and call them back. Eventually get through and speak to Cherie who tells me that the server room is running at 49c cost the air conditioning was shut down by the fire detection system which thought that there was a problem in the room. We've got various people in attendance and others on their way. I leave it in her capable hands.

Pascale and Alex treat us to bacon, scrambled eggs, tomatoes, tiger bread toast and coffee. Hits the spot nicely. We then pack up the two cars and head off to Hylands Park.

A big open space near to Chelmsford town centre and a favourite for walkers, families, kite fliers, dogs, aircraft enthusiasts - Alex has joined this rank as he now has a new plane (3 feet wing span, powerful electric engine, clever remote control and a set of servos allowing him to do weird and wonderful things with the flaps, rudder and ailerons). We stroll into the park. Big open space. Bright blue skies but a very cold, powerful wind. Marian and Pascale wander off with the dogs and Alex tinkers to get the plane ready to fly. I stand around and give more support, inane comments and mop my streaming nose - this bloody cold is a pain!

Eventually, all is ready and he launches! Immediate success and flight! I was hoping that he would pretend to lose control and have it plough through the myriad of kites flying behind us. No such luck. He's sensible and avoids them. Its very windy so he has limited control and can only really fly it when its not being blown about (i,.e. not very often). He then has trouble landing. As its so windy its hard to control and he's worried about stacking it into the ground. I hope he doesn't become a real pilot otherwise he'll never land his first solo flight!  He masters it and successfully lands. One more try and its up again - poor man's hands are frozen as he's got to do this bare-handed and the wind is a killer. I'm wearing gloves between nose-blows and my hands are frozen!

Marian and Pascale rejoin us with Blake and Colin. Blake comes bounding over as soon as he recognises me. Nice to be loved! He also senses that we're connected to the plane and runs up and down chasing it. He always did that as a puppy with the birds in the fields. He would chase and run after them even though they were in the air and out of reach. In fact, he was a real problem for us when we were walking on the coastal cliffs in Cornwall. Alex eventually lands it and Blake is able to give it a good sniff.

We reload ourselves into our respective cars and four ice-blocks try to get warm again. So nice to spend time with those three. We also just love it that the dogs get on so well with each other.

Back home we settle in do some chores and i start going through the paperwork related to Dad's estate. I notice that the Power of Attorney which has been set up for our cousin to sell the property in Guyana will actually grant him full legal rights over all our estates. No way that can be allowed. I eventually get through to Max. She hadn't spotted it and is as worried as we are. Marian has a look at it for me and suggests that we get the Guyana lawyer to re-draft the POA. Makes sense so I write to do that.

Blake has gone to bed and died from exhaustion. Apart from feeding him we don't see him again that night!

Marian and I are no better than that. We crash in front the telly and just chill out.
