18th Feb - out for dinner

Blake and I have our early(ish) Saturday morning walk. Cold breeze means its not that great for walking but at least its dry. The snow has completely gone and the paths are boggy. The clay sticks to my boots and makes walking hard work. My thighs feel it the most!

We have breakfast (bacon, eggs and toast) and start a new crossword. Pascale and Alex arrive just after we finish breakfast. Colin has had a haircut. He doesn't look like an ewok any more. He is now a proper Schnauser! Quite different and takes a bit of getting used to but it quite suits him. They have come over because the buyers of the 'bus' are coming today to finish off the paperwork, have a test drive and (hopefully) pay money and take it away. They're (the buyers) a pleasant young couple. They are very keen on the bus and have already paid a deposit. Pascale and Alex clear out the bus and wash it down in preparation for its departure. They take the buyers on on a test drive - they decide that they want it, so back to the kitchen to get the paperwork (Documents and dosh) sorted out. Soon, everything is 'sorted' as they say in Eastenders!

They have lunch and head back home to do their own chores which includes making a cake for Alex's mum Sheryl whose birthday was yesterday. She has invited us all over for dinner and Pascale and Alex are m/b/taking a cake as a surprise.

We do some bits round the house and then pack up to go over to Chelmsford. We're staying with P&A overnight, the dog has also been invited and we have to take his paraphernalia as well. The car looks like we're going away for a week by the time we load everything into it. The rain is lifting as we leave and drive west into a glorious sunset with the clouds just above the setting sun.

We get there via Sainsburys (chocs, wine, coke, flowers, beer and washing up liquid - for us not Sheryl!). The cake has been baked but needs to the finishing touches. Its a 3-tier banoffee. Looks good and Marian says that its delicious - she has tried all the separate component but haven't tried them as a finished product. We decide to drive to Kevin and Sheryl. Its only 10 minutes away but carrying the cake is easier in the car. We should have put some bamboo skewers through the cake layers as the three layers all try to move in different directions on the way there. Pascale manages to keep them together but there is a slight feel of the tower at Pisa about it by the time we get there.

We are given a great welcome and a superb dinner. For me, the piece de resistance is the homemade profiteroles. They're lovely. We are kept well entertained and the wine flows. We end up with JD and cokes as nightcaps. We leave the car and walk back to Pascale and Alex's. Chat and further nightcaps before we all hit the sack.
