Pseudo birthday

John Norton and I decided to have a joint birthday do. He was 65 on 12th December and I'll be 60 on 19th January. We're having a 125th birthday do with a number of BT and ex-BT folk that we've worked with over the years - jointly and separately but mainly sociable people that we've also drunk with and got drunk with over our times in the Post Office/BT.

John normally has a joint do with Kevin in December and I used to do a joint one with Les in January. However times have changed and we've jointly decided to one in January. December tends to be a bit hard to organise anything cos' people have so many other commitments.

We're going to the Lamb in Lamb Conduits Street. An old haunt that Les and I used a lot when we did our joint do's. Nice old pub but also one that our friends will know and remember. We've limited the numbers as we're using the upstairs room and we'd like some privacy for the do. Most of the people we've invited do actually turn up. That's great as they've been hand-picked as mutual friends that we want to share our joy at living to our respective ages!

Before we do that we arrange to meet for a bite to give our tummies a lining for the beer. Marian, John and I meet at Holborn and go to Nando's. This is a first for me as I've never been to a Nando's before.
The food's good and gives a excellent lining in preparation for the copious amounts of beer we're about to consume. Pascale joins us after her teaching sessions but John and I need to head off to capture early stragglers (forerunners in the area). We walk past Sicilian Avenue and I'm taken by the turrets and bay windows. Very impressive.

Paddy and Mave are there - they've just got off the train and came straight to the pub. Ram turns up followed by Gordon and Lyn, Vaughan, Les G, Pascale and Marian. As the crowds build up we go upstairs to the room we've booked. We end up with most of the people we've invited including Alex Alison, Ken and Jackie to name but a few. Mave is our unofficial photographer.
Its a great evening, the only problem is that there are so many people to catch up with and not enough time to talk in any kind of meaningful conversation.
We set off to get the train back to Chelmsford (for Pascale and Alex) and Kelvedon for us. We go via Marks & Spencer's food hall as we're all hungry now - poor Alex hasn't even had dinner.
Thankfully the train runs well and we're home just after 11:30. I try to do this blog but am too tired - can't keep my eyes open so I head for bed.
