Into double figures!

Another desk-based day. But before I go in I've got a couple of things to do - both personal. First is some plasters for the blisters from the new boots.

First time I've had this kind of problem in about 20 or 30 years. Can't really remember the last time I've had such a silly problem. I thought that my body had been immured to such failings by now and that all the skin would be as hard as my brain by now. I guess that my brain is softer than I thought!

Now there's a thought!

The other thing is to sort out the power of authority that Marian drafted for me. I pop into the local solicitors by work and they dod the stuff within about 5 minutes. V handy. All for £7 - cheap at half the price! Just gotta remember to post it off to Max tomorrow. Although I will scan it in and send it electronically today.

Into the office, I wander around the ground floor where we have started putting people into the newly refurbished space. It looks great and one person actually comes up to me and says 'thanks' for the work that I've done. This is amazing. It's the first time anyone has said an unprompted thanks for the work i've done. So sweet and nice to hear. I really don't need thanks for doing a job I'm paid to do but its great when it happens. I'm still waiting for one of my managers to say that! I have to say managers cos' none of them feel like 'bosses'.

It's the difference between people who tell others what to do and the people who lead others into the roles they play. Those who have to learn how to manage people and those who have a natural flair and take people along just by the force of their belief and the dedication they have to the job they do. I've met a few in my life but they do tend to be few and far between.

Later in the day I catch up with the site manager Steve who is now back from his holidays. Good man. I'm really pleased that we have him looking after the building works. He's down to earth and a real charmer. We go through the work we've got ahead of us and realise that we've only got less than 3 months to sort it out. I have some ideas on how we will tackle this and run it past him. It will need some tight management especially since we've got some work to do on the roof and the winter weather could hit us at any time.

Eventually head for home. At least the trains are running a it better now. There's a glorious moon out and the walk home is really quite pleasant.
