End of the first full week of 2012

GAL! The lever mixing tap might not be pushed all the way over and i might get non-mains water to drink (well, make sure that the lever is pushed all the way over to the right asshole!)

This is the first time in a long time that I've worked 5 consecutive days and it feels like it! I'm not the only one. I'm sure that this is true of lots of people all over the world - especially where they celebrate Christmas.

Its a gorgeous sunny day although its a it cold (bloody freezing to be honest). I take a pic of the sun rising from the train. Nice stroll into the office (after my fix of Game of Thrones on the journey - bloody good read, I'm really enjoying it and am amazed by the author's ideas - he's obviously well read in history and literature with fabulous vocab and ideas.

We have an accommodation project board. I'm supposed to be the project manager reporting to the board but there's no-one who feels qualified to drive the meeting so I end up setting the agenda, chairing it, writing the notes, setting the dates, booking the venues, etc. Attendance is quite hit and miss and I'm never sure who will turn up even though they have been set six months in advance. I'm always there. Today I'm surprised since our comms rep turns up - first time in 3 months.

I discuss the asbestos discovery with our Health & Safety team. The recommendation is to leave it alone. The idea is that the stuff is not dangerous until it is broken up. Trying to remove it can raise the dust so it is better left alone. I leave instructions with the site manager.

The doors to the committee area and their lighting is being sorted out by various sub-contractors. The space gets split into three separate rooms but, until now, their lights have been controlled from 1 place. I have had the pleasure of sitting in room 3 in semi-darkness because the control is in room 1 where they are giving a presentation. Well, that all changed today and the individual rooms now have their own controls when the barriers to create the 3 rooms are in place.

I send a facebook message to Auntie Marge (not Simpson) for her 8xth birthday and remember to buy a card for Odette's 30th and get stamps but completely forget to post it. Stroll into the chemist to get my prescription filled. I ask if she'll accept my very old driving licence (which doesn't have a picture) as proof of age - they're free for over 60's and I'm a virgin over-60. She looks at me and says that it is fine as the date of birth is actually printed on the prescription and they therefore don't need proof of age. I feel like a right wally! Oh well! Nothing new there then and it just goes to show that you don't have to be young to feel like a fool!
