I don't feel 60! A good night's sleep and I'm feeling good today.
Its a shame that the same isn't true of the railways! The train to Braintree is running late but, on the positive side, it gives me a chance to get stuck into my book. I'm in the second of the Game of Thrones serial. A really good read. The author has created a fabulous world. It creates sparks in my mind and gets my own ideas going for the world I'm trying to create. I'm going to have to start developing my ideas further soon. I've an idea of search, betrayal, loneliness, alienation, Epiphany and forgiveness which spans years, generations, lands, terrains and ages with heroes dying at strange, unexpected times and new youngsters turning up in one book but being full grown in a later one. But I also want to define the communities, religions and politics. I suppose that if I ever retire I could focus on that as a project. I've got some basic stuff I've put together but keep getting distracted by such good books as this one.
In the office, my first task is to find my desk which is still buried under the balloons, banners and confetti that was left on my desk on my birthday.
I then start collecting complaints from the people who've moved into the newly refurbished area. Windows which won't close, lights too bright, draughts, noisy fans, etc. I just wish that people would get a life but try to keep a lid on my impatience with them.
I spend a lot of time with the site manager and his colleagues. We're trying to map out the work programme for the next few months. I also need to sort out the invoices for the works done over the past month. Quite a bit but we get on top of it and sort out what needs to be paid and what needs to be held. Tomorrow holds the terrors of having to meet the idiots who are installing the windows. None of us are looking forward to that one. Not even Steve who could sell snow to the Eskimos.
Afterwards I try to sort out the project finances. It's a £3.5m project and we've spent just over £2m so far. I'm trying to make sure we've got a bit left over as there's another refurbishment I think that we should do.
Last job before I go home is to clear all the birthday clutter off my desk. It was fun whilst it lasted.
Journey back is uneventful. Delve further into my book. I'm hooked.
